Mustard Mania

It feels really refreshing to be able to write for the blog again, after all it's been way too long. Hi everyone! Wearrior A here signing in.

For those who have been in South East Asia for the past few weeks, you must have been experiencing the crazy heat wave that has struck the region. We are having school holidays in Brunei and I took the opportunity to spend a week with Z and his family. Fortunately the weather up in Petaling Jaya was bearable since it rained quite a bit in the beginning of last week. Not until we reached the weekend did the heat wave truly become intense. It was unbearable even when I had my hair tied up in a bun. I came home to Brunei dehydrated and requiring some TLC indoors and here I am with a new post!

I met up with one of the Bohemian Brighties, Amal K a few weeks ago and we went to check out the Brunei Islamic Fashion Week (BIFASH) held in BRIDEX, Jerudong. We had the opportunity to check out designs from Brunei as well as some from Malaysia and Indonesia. After an evening of window shopping, both Amal and I  went for a second trip to BIFASH  separately but we both came home with the same item: a mustard coat from Indonesian designer, Syafina Feriyal.

I've always been a fan of mustard and I really could not resist this coat. Contemplating on whether or not the forever summer weather here in Brunei would grant me a day in a coat but little did I know, there are no such restrictions when it comes to this mustard one.

Hijab - Ariani
Coat - Syafina official
White cropped top with crochet hem - Zalora
Black skinnies - River Island
Heels - Vincci

I went for a casual chic look. Something that is simple to put on but at the same time offers versatility. I also wanted this to be effortless. I wanted to offer a look which incorporates pieces that can be easily found in every girls closet, which also complements the strong mustard. With that in mind, I settled with a white tee, which has a delicate crochet hem from Zalora and of course a contrasting pair of black skinnies from River Island. The coat from Syafina official (IG: @syafinaofficial) is already a statement piece on its own. Surprisingly it is airy and light. Despite it's thin composition, the coat offers a solid frame, which is faithful to its winter relative (the winter coat). It really is the perfect coat for the tropical weather.

To spice up my outfit, I went for a patterned black and white hijab from Ariani (IG @arianirtw). Thanks to my mom and her friends, I am obsessed with the Ariani Ready-To-Wear hijab collection. This one that I'm donning is an instant hijab which requires only one pin! It also comes with a free inner, hand picked by the stylist in the shop themselves! The one I never fail to visit whenever I am in KL, is the Shah Alam branch. The shop ladies and gentlemen are super helpful and friendly. They also frequently organise massive discounts especially during holidays! This hijab is light and requires minimum time and effort to wear. You can also style it however you like. Totally recommend this to anyone who is looking for affordable, fun and easy-to-wear hijabs.

As for my shoes, I went for the classic pointed black heels from Vincci. I seriously can never get over buying black shoes be it heels, sandals or flats. This pair offers the right height for me to walk about during the day or night.

A + A

Amal went for a classic office look. Since she is an official law graduate, our Bohemian Brighty has been experimenting on different office wear. Never failing to bring the wow factor to work, you can check out the her full outfit on her blog and follow the rest of her looks and adventures at her personal Instagram Always and forever a fan of the way she adds class in every outfit.

- END -

To end this post, I'd like to give a major thank you to Amal K for doing this shoot with me! Another special thanks to our talented photographer Syafiq Saini. I am really thankful to have the opportunity to blog again thanks to these two!

Thanks for reading and hope to see you again soon! Thank you for waiting for us, wishing you all a lovely week ahead.

Hello! Welcome to Wearrior Instinct. I'm Ainul! My style is described best as 'mix and match'. Fashion, to me, is a form of self expression. I dress for myself and I love exploring new and different ways to do it. I believe strongly that we all have the potential to be the best we can be; all we have to do is to follow our (Wearrior) Instinct.

Hey! I'm Mu'izz. I'm currently taking my masters degree in Political Science at UCL. I would probably say that my fashion style is best described as "Good-boy Oxford look" and I love colours. Although, I am preppy for most of the time, I do also like to mix elements from other fashion style. Right now, I am exploring more of the urban style. For me, Fashion is a platform that expresses and embraces one's individuality. Hopefully, it will inspire you to wear your (Wearrior) instinct! – I am on a research leave at the moment, I will be back soon!

Hi! I’m Alia Alkaff, a 20-year-old Graphic Design undergraduate at Norwich University of the Arts. Black enthusiast and a lover of all things minimalistic, which also happens to best describe my style of Fashion. With being a part of Wearrior Instinct it has encouraged me greatly to be proud of what I wear and I hope we as a team will have that effect to bring out your inner Wearrior Instinct!

My name is Faiz, but most people call me Fez. I studied at the the University of Leeds and graduated in 2015. I currently run a pop-up based coffee business called Aoyama Coffee. My interests in fashion lie more in on streetwear - and bridging the gap between it and menswear. I'm a fan of the little things in labels that set them apart from others, and my taste is a little unconventional, to say the least. I'm also really into raw denim. I should mention that I'm on hiatus at the moment - but I will be back!

Oh hi there! I run a YouTube channel called AMSAIMA, where I create beauty and styling vlogs. I like to think of my fashion sense as multifaceted - I could dress to the nines with textured garments, look quirky while donning a pair of boyfriend jeans, or go for an alternative retro. Wearrior Instinct doesn’t just provide a space for me to document my looks and write about the pieces I’ve put together, but as I’m all about body positivity, I see this as an opportunity where confidence can be both built and encouraged. Lots of love, Amalsaima (or simply, Amal).
